ACCOUNTING, PAYROLL & BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Program Objectives
The objective of this course is to expose the student to the most relevant aspects of business management and administration, while providing the student with the tools required for a career in business.
Because the business world is very dynamic, students are taught to keep up to date with the latest developments and business trends by reading financial newspapers, books, and magazines. Case studies are used to train students to think analytically and to apply their knowledge by solving problems and making decisions.
This program also give the student “hands-on” training in the key areas of financial accounting and payroll, as well as in the implementation and operation of a computerized accounting system. The practical, rather than the theoretical, is stressed. The successful graduate will have the necessary skills to keep a set of books, both manually and on a computerized system.

The need for well-trained, competent account and payroll professionals has never been greater. Accountants are crucial to the running of any business in order to gather, record, organize, and analyze their financial affairs.
Certification
Successful graduates of this program will meet the program requirements to receive the Payroll Supervisor certification from the Payroll Management Certificate Program (PMCP), issued by the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA). The certification is nationally recognized as the statement of excellence for payroll training. The pass mark in the required modules is 70%.
Successful graduates of this program will also meet the program requirements to receive the Certificate in Supervisory Management (CSM), issued by the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM). The certification is nationally recognized as the standard of excellence for supervisory training.
This program also includes the potential for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification at the Expert level in Excel and Word and at the Core level in Access and PowerPoint.
Prerequisites
Grade 12 or equivalent OR mature student status (19 years of age)
Passing score on the entrance examination
